LINDEN, Tenn. — WOPC-FM has received two statewide nominations from the Tennessee Association of Broadcasters, earning recognition for Best Local News Coverage and Best Local News Reporter for Will Nunley in the small-market radio category.
The nominations stem from the station's coverage of the AES plant explosion in October 2025. WOPC journalists Will Nunley and Joe Collie were among the first reporters on the scene, providing live updates and critical information to listeners throughout the region.
WOPC's reporting gained national attention, with live reports airing on FOX LiveNOW and being utilized by other national and international news organizations.

“We began streaming our reports while we were literally in our vehicle responding to the scene,” said Will Nunley, owner of WOPC-FM. “WOPC not only worked hard to serve our audiences on multiple platforms, but we also aided our Nashville television colleagues with crucial satellite equipment to assist with their coverage in those first moments.”
Nunley said the situation underscored the importance of cooperation and accuracy in emergency reporting.
“This was the type of emergency that demanded teamwork, accuracy and credibility,” he said. “I believe WOPC delivered in all aspects, and we are honored that our broadcasting peers feel the same.”
The Best Local News Coverage nomination recognizes the work of both Nunley and producer Joe Collie.
The recognition comes as WOPC marks its 10th year of service to the community. The station was among those affected by the recent ice storm that impacted portions of Middle Tennessee.
“While music is a big part of what we do, our mission has always been community service through professional local news, weather and sports coverage,” Nunley said. “These nominations mean a lot to our entire team.”
According to the Tennessee Association of Broadcasters, award entries are evaluated by radio and television professionals from outside Tennessee to ensure an impartial judging process.
Winners will be announced during the association's annual awards ceremony in August.
